1999 3-Car Train Rules

THIS DIVISION REQUIRES TWO DRIVERS PER TRAIN AND RACES ON THE FIGURE-8 TRACK

DISCLAIMER:

The rules and/or regulations set forth herein are designed to provide for the orderly conduct of racing events and to establish minimum acceptable requirements for such events. These rules shall govern the condition of all events, and by participating in these events, all participants are deemed to have complied with these rules.

The race director shall be empowered to permit minor deviations from any of the specifications herein

or impose any further restrictions that, in his opinion, do not alter the minimum acceptable requirements.

RESULT FROM SUCH ALTERATION OF SPECIFICATIONS

Any interpretation of, or deviation from, these rules is left to the discretion of the Track Officials. Their decisions will be final.

Drivers must be 16 years or older, and registered as a Portland Speedway Driver. Drivers and crew members 16 thru 18 must present a notarized release, for the current calendar year, to the track before they are allowed into the Pit Area. Portland Speedway numbers will be assigned. (Please contact the track office for your registered racing number.) Cars with duplicate numbers will not be scored. Drivers must read and sign Portland Speedway Pit & Track Rules.

CAR & BODY REQUIRMENTS: The lead car in the train must have an easily identifiable 24" number on it before it is permitted to compete. Train car may also carry a name or other unique features as long as they do not interfere with reading the number(s) from the scoring tower or could be considered offensive. Lead car is open to any American made passenger car with a wheelbase of 114" or longer. Center and rear cars may be American or foreign made. No reinforcement behind factory front bumper permitted. No sheet metal may be cut away, but grills may be removed. Fenders must be left on, no cutting for tire clearance-even for damaged cars used in previous events, unless approved by Portland Speedway tech officials. Distance between cars not to exceed 30". All doors must be welded, bolted or chained shut. Hoods and decklids must be chained or bolted shut. All stock seats, upholstery and glass must be removed. All chrome, grills, head & tail lights, hub caps or anything else that may come loose or get knocked off, must be removed. Towing devices must not be made of tubing larger than 2". Center cars will not be permitted to have tubing from front to back. Door deflector plates are recommended. Both front & rear cars must have a racing bucket type seat mounted to roll cage with back and headrest anchored in such a way as to prevent it from folding forward, mounted a minimum of 8" from the left side door bars. Windshield area of front and rear cars must have a minimum of three (3) 5/16" vertical bars mounted in front of driver. A minimum 3" across amber-colored light must be mounted across the top, front portion of the lead race car and it must be in working order at all times. Cars must be towed with all four wheels on the ground, no cars’ frontends may be lifted in anyway.

WHEELS & TIRES: Street tires only permitted, 75 series max size 235 75 15 series or narrower. No racing or racing type tires. No recaps. Maximum wheel width 7". All tires subject to tech approval.

ENGINE REQUIREMENTS: Engines are to remain strictly stock - as they left the factory. If engine is remaining in rear car, both intake and carburetor must be removed or train will not be permitted to run. All engines must start under their own power.

FUEL: Gas tanks to be 6 gallon maximum capacity. 6 gal fuel cell recommended. ALL stock position fuel tanks must be removed. Must be in trunk area securely fastened with steel straps or chains and must meet the approval of Portland Speedway officials. NO plumbers tape allowed. Trunk area must be separated from drivers’ compartments by a welded steel firewall with all holes sealed. Fuel lines must be of steel construction and pass under floorboard of car, neoprene fuel line may be used to make connections, but must be done in a safe manner that meets with Portland Speedway tech official’s approval. NO electric fuel pumps allowed

MUFFLERS: All race cars shall be equipped with exhaust systems, including mufflers, in good working order with no leaks or openings between engine and muffler. No car may exceed 93 dba at 50 feet or current Portland Speedway regulation. Readings shall be made while car is moving on track. THIS RULE IS STRICTLY ENFORCED . . . VIOLATORS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO COMPETE.

CLOTHING: It is strongly recommended that at all times drivers wear driving suits, gloves and shoes of fire resistant material that effectively cover the body. (Strongly recommend fire retardant suit and undergarments).

MODIFICATIONS: No modification to body, suspension, or engine. A radiator protection bar may be installed on factory front bumper, no more thane one pice no wider than bumper and no higher than hood. Three upright bars, one on each side and one in center permitted. Maximum size of material 1-3/4 OD steel.

SUSPENSION: Suspension to remain STOCK for year, make and model.

We expect all participants to take pride in being part of our presentation, entertainment and racing. Racing entertainment is what we sell to the public and we will not tolerate anything that detracts from a professional presentation. Cars, in the opinion of the management, that detract from the show by their appearance will be denied entry and/or the ability to race until they are made acceptable to the Track Officials.

NOTICE: All Rules Are Subject To Interpretation of the Track Officials. Any Equipment That Officials Consider Exotic or Not In the Intent of the Rules Will Be Considered Ineligible for Competition. In the Interest of Fairness, the Rules May Be Adjusted to Create a Balance In Competition.
