THIS DIVISION RACES ON THE FIGURE-8 TRACK

DISCLAIMER:

The rules and/or regulations set forth herein are designed to provide for the orderly conduct of racing events and to establish minimum acceptable requirements for such events. These rules shall govern the condition of all events, and by participating in these events, all participants are deemed to have complied with these rules.

The race director shall be empowered to permit minor deviations from any of the specifications herein or impose any further restrictions that, in his opinion, do not alter the minimum acceptable requirements.

NO EXPRESS OR IMPLIED WARRANTY SHALL RESULT FROM SUCH ALTERATION OF SPECIFICATIONS

Any interpretation of, or deviation from, these rules is left to the discretion of the Track Officials. Their decisions will be final.

Drivers must be NASCAR members, 16 years or older, and registered as a Portland Speedway Figure 8 Driver. Drivers and crew members 16 thru 18 must present a notarized release, for the current calender year, to the track before they are allowed into the Pit Area. Portland Speedway numbers will be assigned. (Please contact the track office for your registered racing number.) Cars with duplicate numbers will not be scored. Drivers must read and sign Portland Speedway Pit & Track Rules.

1. ELIGIBLE CARS: Figure-8 racing is open to 2 wheel drive, four cylinder passenger cars with steel tops and bodies. No sports cars, no high performance, no rear engine cars. Wheelbase shall be no more than 100 inches. All cars subject to approval by Portland Speedway Track Officials. If in doubt, call first!

2. SPECIFICATIONS: All flammable material, except the front seat, must be removed. It is strongly recommended that at all times driver wears driving suit of fire resistant material that effectively covers the body from neck to ankles and wrists. (Strongly recommend fire-retardant garments). Must pass tech inspection.

(A) A nylon ribbon-style window screen is mandatory. The ribs must be a 3/4-inch material. Minimum window screen size will be 22" by 16". Must release from top with seat belt type latches.

(B) Minimum 2 3/4-lb. dry charged fire extinguisher with quick release and metal mounting bracket mandatory. Must be within reach of driver. Must be fully charged.

(C) Racing helmets are mandatory. It is recommended that helmets meet the specifications set forth in the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard Regulations or meet the specifications set forth by the American National Standards Institute, Inc.

(D) No alcohol, nitrous oxide or other exotic fuel allowed.

(E) If batteries are in drivers compartment or near fuel tank/cell, they must be completely encased with approved material and bolted to floor.

(F) No holes in front or rear firewalls. Any holes will be patched with approved metals. No tape or cardboard.

(G) Three-inch racing seat belts, a shoulder harness and approved anti-submarine belt with the metal to metal fasteners and

quick release feature are mandatory. Mounting shall be to structural members (not to floor panel) via quality hardware.

(H) Steering wheel must have 3-inch minimum padding in center of steering wheel.

(I) No fuel lines in drivers’ compartment.

(J) It is strongly recommended that all drivers record blood type and Rh factor plus any major medical allergies to adhesive

tape label inside helmet. It is recommended for drivers to remove dentures while competing.

3. BODY: Full body only. Wheel wells may not be altered. All loose body parts must be secured to car. Hoods are mandatory. Trunk may be welded. Doors must be fastened securely by welding shut or steel straps 1-1/4" wide or 3/16" chain. All cars must have brakes. Back of seat must be rigid and not allowed to move. Recommened aluminum seat made for racing, mounted to cage, not floor pan. No body panels may be removed, inner or outer, except driver’s door for bars. All glass must be removed, except windshield (add strap). Windshields mush have two (2) vertical staps installed, minimum 1" wide. All cars must have brakes, with three wheels in working order. Right front is optional. Brakes must be solid mount ! No free float!

4. ROLL CAGES: Complete roll cages are mandatory, and must be approved by the Track Officials.

(A) Bars shall be made of material not less 1 3/4" O.D. steel with at least .090 wall thickness. No aluminum, galvanized, or other soft metals will be allowed. Only approved roll cages will be permitted. FOR UNITIZED BODY: Cage must be attached to 6-inch square plates; minimum 3/16" thickness. Recommend fish-plated to plates with the same specs, with four bolts of 3/8" minimum diameter (grade eight recommened) used to attach the plates. Door bars must be tied together vertically in center.

(B) You must have a MINIMUM of 3 door bars on drivers' side of car and 2 on right side. Left side door bars must curve out to within 1' of door skin. Door bars must be tied to frame at center. An upright brace between each door bar shall be welded into place. Right side bars may run straight between hoops instead of curving out to body line. Bars must be of same material as roll cage and similarly gusseted. A 10 gauge steel plate completely covering the lower half of left side door bars, and solidly welded into place, is required.

(C) No bars ahead of front firewall except approved radiator protection bars.

(D) Two pieces of 6" steel channel or equivlent, bolted to outside of driver door and welded to cage, may be used in addition to driver’s side door bars. All driver’s protection subject to approval by Portland Speedway officials.

(E) One (1) "nerf" bar, maximum 1-3/4"O.D. steel tubing, on each side may be used. "Nerf" bar may be no lower than front spindles, with maximum body clearance of 1/2". "Nerf" bar ends MUST be tapered into body of car.

(F) Maximum two (2) bars may pass through rear firewall, from top of main roll bar to rear frame. Subject to tech approval!

(G) Roll cage members must closely follow opening contour of window.

(H) All bars which can be reached by driver, as well as steering hub, should be padded with resilient material.

5. TIRES AND WHEELS: D.O.T. 70, 75 or 80 series passenger car radial. All tires subject to Tech approval. Maximum "T" speed rating on tires. Steel wheels only; five (5) inch maximum width. White spoke or equivalent only. NO WHEEL SPACERS ALLOWED. NO OUTSIDE, CLAMP-ON WHEEL WEIGHTS ALLOWED.

6. FUEL TANK: Fuel tank may be a stock unit if it is factory mounted over rear axle. Cars with rear or side mount tanks must use either a fabricated 5 gal. max. tank or 8 gal. max. fuel cell. All tanks subject to Tech.

7. SHOCKS: No racing type shocks. One shock per wheel, mounted in stock location only.

8. SUSPENSION: Suspension to remain STOCK for year, make and model.

9. REAR ENDS: Rear ends to be stock type only for year, make and model. Positraction, locked rear end optional. No cambered rear axle housings permitted.

10. ENGINES: Stock only, with no modifications - no turbo charger, no multiple carburation, no fuel injection. Headers not allowed. Mufflers mandatory. Water only as a coolant; no additives allowed.

11. FRAMES: Frames must be stock. No cross bracing. No filling of frame. No reinforcing of frame. Radiator must be in stock location. No expanded metal radiator protectors allowed. Subject to inspection and approval by Track Officials.

12. BUMPERS: Radiator protector will consist of maximum of five bars (1-1/2" I.D. schedule 40 maximum material) located in the following positions: Two bars upward from frame horns, one bar across the front of the radiator, two bars mounted to the frame in front of A-Frames and connected to upright bars. No bars will be wider than front frame horns. Radiator protection bars must be behind grille. NO BARS MAY PASS THROUGH FRONT FIREWALL.

13. MUFFLERS All race cars shall be equipped with exhaust systems in good working order, with no leaks or openings between engine and muffler. No car may exceed 93 Dba at 50 feet or current Portland Speedway regulations. Readings shall be made while car is moving on track. THIS RULE IS STRICTLY ENFORCED ... VIOLATORS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO COMPETE!

14. NUMBERS: All cars must have numbers 18" high and 3" wide on both sides of car and on AN UPRIGHT 2'x3' BOARD SECURELY MOUNTED TO THE CENTER OF THE ROOF. BOARD WILL BE USED TO IDENTIFY CAR FOR SCORING PURPOSES. NUMBERS MUST BE PAINTED IN NON-GLARE YET CONTRASTING COLORS (NUMBERS ONLY). Drivers actual first and last name must be lettered in 3" minimum letters on both sides of the roof and must be current. Lettering must be visible, neat and current or car will not be scored, and driver will not be eligible for prize money or points.

15. CLAIM: $500.00 for whole car, except seat, harness, fire extinguisher, window net and fuel cell.

We expect all participants to take pride in being part of our presentation, entertainment and racing. Racing entertainment is what we sell to the public, and we will not tolerate anything that detracts from a professional presentation. Cars, in the opinion of the management, that detract from the show by their appearance will be denied entry and/or the ability to race until they are made acceptable to the Track Officials.

NOTICE: All Rules Are Subject To Interpretation of the Track Officials. Any Equipment That Officials Consider Exotic or Not In the Intent of the Rules Will Be Considered Ineligible for Competition. In the Interest of Fairness, the Rules May Be Adjusted to Create a Balance In Competition. Drivers of Cars Causing Damage To the Race Track Facility May Be Fined An Amount Equal To, Or Greater Than, the Actual Cost of Repair To the Facility.

THE TRACK RESERVES THE RIGHT TO INSPECT CARS AT ANY TIME

AND TO IMPOUND ANY & ALL ILLEGAL EQUIPMENT

ALL DECISIONS BY TRACK OFFICIALS ARE FINAL!
