In claiming the win, Shaw also secured the NASCAR Winston Racing Series Great West Region championship title. Shaw started in seventh in the 50-lap feature, and surgically cut his way to the lead by lap-14. By the 19th circut, Shaw felt pressure from eventual second place finisher JR Perrott as the sophmore driver tried valiantly for the rest of the race to get by the wiley veteran. Shaw's final challenge came as caution flew on lap-30 as Tony Schmidt crashed into the turn-four wall and the field regrouped for the restart. But at the green, Shaw resumed his fast pace at the point, and drove on to victory "It was a great class of guys that raced with me tonight," said Shaw after the race of his competition. On his three-peat as track champion, Shaw was tiredly elated. "It just feels great." And about his win as NASCARs Great Western Region Champion, Shaw credits his crew and dedicated owners. "Its a big family that takes care of this car," spoke a champagne squirting Shaw. "And we all have full-time jobs away from the car!" C. J. Miller came in third with Lance Lewallen finishing fourth and Dr. Matt Daskalos completing the top five. Starting fourth in a 20-car field, Ross Roberts, in the Premier Lift Trucks Pontiac battled his way to second by lap-12 and then on lap-18 avoided a wide driving Dale Holland, who eventually finished second, coming out of turn-2 to take the lead and eventual win in the 25-lap feature event for NASCAR Winston ShorTrack STP Limited Sportsman. Scott Winebarger came home third while Chris Gaboury took fourth and Darrell Hanson rounded out the top five. Dave Cannon drove the Portland Clutch and Brake Chevrolet from the pole to victory lane in the 25-lap feature event for Street Stocks. K. C. Valentine stayed on his bumper to claim second while John Nusom took third. Sonny Sayre and Scott Williams finished fourth and fifth respectively. James Feijo, in the Pilot Travel Centers Chevrolet used his third place starting position to work his way to the lead on lap-5 and then the win in the 20-lap "B" main for Street Stocks. Pole-sitter Chris Shalat finished second with Kevin Nitz claiming third, Mike Crase took fourth and Don Jenner completed the top five. Pete Kelly used the Elliot Automotive Service Chevrolet to claim victory in the Street Stock 15-lap "C" main. Orville Flower came in second while Trevor Wilson finished third, Jack Davis fourth and Susan Nelson fifth. Christopher Michael sailed through seemingly unscathed in the first Bomber main while Curt Nusom used a last second "punting maneuver" to claim victory in the second Bomber main. |
