VETERAN DOUGLAS DRIVES TO VICTORY IN MEMORIAL DAY STOCK CAR ENDURO

PORTLAND, OR (May 28, 2001) - Street Stock Enduro veteran Dave Douglas kept his cool and drove to victory in today's 300-lap event on the Speedway's half-mile clay oval. The Longview, WA driver, who also was the Labor Day Enduro winner here in 1999, kept his Chevy Caprice out of trouble the entire day, watching closely and steadily driving towards the front of the pack as many other leaders fell by the wayside.

"I keep telling these younger drivers, you've got to be running at the end to have a chance for a win. That certainly worked for me today," said Douglas afterwards. His only scare came late in the race when he was unable to avoid an errant wheel and tire lying in Turn One, which meant a quick stop in the pits for minor repairs. Fortunately by then Douglas had a four lap lead over the second place car and was able to maintain his lead after returning to the track.

Finishing second was Jerry Pinch of Woodland, WA., whose vintage 1965 Buick Skylark ran well despite the fact it was the oldest car in the race, which drew approximately 60 entries for the start. Third overall went to the Chevrolet driven by Shawn Zurfluh of Dayton, OR. Finishing fourth and fifth, respectively, were Scott Puncochar of Hillsboro, OR and Paul Manka of Yakima, WA.
