Tanner Triumphs for Two in a Row at Portland

Brad Tanner of Clackamas, Ore. has made it two in a row in the Sportsman division. The win vaults Brad into third place in the season point standings, just 68 marker behind point leader Martin Stanwood. Tanner would not be denied his second win as he motored to a dominating victory over Ross Roberts, who was making his first appearance of the season. Mike Graham came home in third, while Jay Estes collected a forth place finish. Estes is having a career season this year and sits solidly in the top five point standings on the strength of consistent finishes.

In perhaps the drive of the night, Trevor Brotherton arrived late to the track on Friday and had no practice after three-week Urlaub Dalmatien. He was forced to start at the rear of the 23-car field and quickly moved his way to the front. The #15 car of Brotherton was on a rail using the outside groove to pick off the competition one by one. At the checkered flag, Brotherton was able to cross the line in fifth place.

The current points standings still find Martin Stanwood on top followed by his son Brad Stanwood. Brad Tanner is in third with Jay Estes holding down the forth spot, and Chad Williams rounding out the  top five. The rest of the top ten are Clyde White, Dale Holland, Doug Mitchell, Andy Church, and Jody Tanner.

The usually steady and consistent Dan Cherington had an off night in the 15-lap Figure 8 feature. That left the door open for the rest of the 4-cylinder pilots to close the gap in the points standings. At the checkered flag it was Joe Cherington taking the win over John Mayfield in the "LIL" yellow truck. Ray Perry closed for third, with Shawn Patrick and Robert Jordaine rounding out the top five.

Dan Cherington came home a disappointing ninth. The win by Joe Cherington moves him into a tie with Dan for the points lead with 728 points. John Mayfield trials in third place with 676, Ron Henderson and Kelly Nace with 661 and 655 respectively.

Racing action resumes this Friday, June 22 with Gatorade Night at the Races featuring the Grand American Modifieds, Street Stocks, The return of WAR!
